Myanmar: 20 killed during protests in Bago region

KUALA LUMPUR, 10 Apr 2021 [Fik/News Sources]: At least 20 civilians in Myanmar lost their lives during protests in the region of Bago against the recent military coup that saw numerous elected government officials detained, local media reported on Saturday. Soldiers in the Ma Ga Dit district opened fire on demonstrators, leading to the deaths of at least 20 people, according to eyewitnesses. It was reported that the soldiers gathered the bodies of those killed at a Buddhist temple in the county. Coronavirus cases in China see over 20-month high

This comes as people are preparing to move to their homes during the upcoming New Year holidays and as Beijing prepares to host Winter Olympics. The National Health Commission (NHC) in its latest data showed the Chinese mainland on Sunday reporting 162 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, the state-run Xinhua News reported on Monday. This was the highest number of cases over one and a half years.
