Horticulture dept to develop five more botanical gardens in state

Bengaluru, 28 Mar 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: Karnataka Department of Horticulture has come forward to establish botanical gardens like Lalbagh in five places of the state.  The department has already started work on botanical gardens at Doddasagare of Korategere in Tumkur, Anakanoor of Chikkaballapur, Dattagalli of Mysuru, Tarakanahalli of Sirsi taluk in Uttara Kannada district and Kannamangala Garden of East Bengaluru.  “We decided to develop botanical gardens at 5 places with an objective of having such gardens in different places. There is a scarcity of funds to establish all gardens at once, so we will implement the project step-by-step. All five gardens will be ready in 5 years,” said a department official.  The botanical garden will be developed in the land belonging to the Horticulture Department.

Revised toll tax for driving on national highways applicable from today

Mangaluru, 01 Apr 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: Revising all its toll rates by 5 to 7%, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has made travel on tolled national highways costlier. Due to this, five toll plazas in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts has been revised and will be in effect from April 1. The National Highway Authority of India is managing the toll plaza at Brahamarakootlu and near NITK in Surathkal, while Navayug Udupi Tollway Private Limited is managing the toll plaza at Talapady in DK, Gundmi and Hejamady in Udupi districts. At the NITK tollgate in Surathkal, the toll for light vehicles for one way journey will remain at Rs 50 as was in the past. Bajrang Dal Holds Illegal Arms Training Camp in Kodagu, Karnataka

Bengaluru, 16 May 2022 [Fik/News Sources]: Hindu extremist outfit Bajrang Dal held an illegal arms training camp between May 5 and May 13 at Sai Shankar Educational Institute in the district’s Ponnampet area in Kodagu district of Karnataka. As per the social media posts, participants at the event were trained to use guns. Some photos of the weekend event showed the group’s leaders distributing weapons, including firearms, among young saffron-clad men. Hindu Priests in attendance at the event performed Ayudha Puja or weapon worshipping BJP leader Appachu Ranjan, who is a member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from Madikeri Constituency, is said to have attended the event.
