Mangaluru, 03 Feb 2021 [Fik/News Sources]: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday issued notice to the Centre on a PIL that questioned the privatisation of Mangaluru International Airport, and sought the quashing of the Cabinet decision in 2019 approving the bid of Adani Enterprises Limited for three airports including Mangaluru.Hearing the petition filed by Airports Authority Employees Union, Bajpe, Mangaluru, a division bench of Chief Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka and Justice Sachin Shankar Magadum issued a notice to the Centre. On November 8, 2018, the Union Cabinet gave in principle approval for leading out six airports namely Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram, and Mangaluru under public private partnership. Read More...Bengaluru, 22 Feb 2021 [Fik/News Sources]: Following a slew of attacks on people as well as animals in Karnataka’s Kodagu, another calf was killed suspectedly of a tiger attack on Monday. The calf’s death comes after officials captured a tiger, which is suspected to be responsible for the death of two persons, a 16-year-old boy and 60-year-old woman, in Kodagu’s Ponnampet taluk. Due to the close proximity of time and distance between the incidents, forest officials believed that the same tiger was responsible for both the deaths. The death of the calf on Monday morning comes after the tiger suspected of killing the two people, was captured by the forest department. Read More...Mangaluru, 02 Mar 2021 [Fik/News Sources]:A total of 95.12 kg of gold, smuggled by passengers from various Gulf countries, was seized at Mangaluru International airport from 2017 to 2021 The information was obtained under RTI from the office of the deputy/assistant commissioner of Customs at the airport. Officials claim that gold seized from passengers was disposed of, after following the due procedures laid down as per the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. It is said that in 2017-18, 19.45 kg gold was recovered, in 2018-19, 41.58 kg was recovered, 2019-20, 22.37 kg gold was recovered and 11.72 kg in 2020-21 till January.
