Lingayat issue resurfaces as Lok Sabha polls approach
Bengaluru, 13 Mar 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: The Lingayat movement appears to be resurfacing with both the Congress and BJP trying to woo the community once again for the approaching Lok Sabha elections. While Congress leaders like former Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah and minister D K Shivakumar have admitted that support for the Lingayat movement for an independent religious status, had cost the party in the May 2018 Assembly poll, others like minister M B Patil have continued their signature campaign for it. Bengaluru: Ready to contest as consensus candidate of Cong-JD(S) alliance - Pramod Madhwaraj
Bengaluru, 21 Mar 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: Former minister and Congress leader Pramod Madhwaraj on Wednesday clarified to the party leaders that agreement between JD(S) and the Congress in the Lok Sabha constituency of Udupi-Chikkamagaluru cannot be reversed. During a meeting with the local party leaders from Udupi, Madhwaraj on March 20 however confirmed that he was ready to contest as the consensus candidate. Responding to the appeal made by local Congress leaders not to give away Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency to the JD(S), Madhwaraj said that as per the alliance, there is no question of reversing the decision of the high command.
