No summer vacation this year, says Ashwath Narayan

Bengaluru, 11 Apr 2021 [Fik/News Sources]: Deputy Chief Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan on Saturday announced that the ongoing examinations for higher education courses will not be stopped, and all activities will take place as per schedule. Also, summer vacations will be cancelled for the year.  Talking to mediapersons at the eighth convocation of the Sanskrit University, Dr Ashwath Narayan said that at the university level, under-graduate, post-graduate, engineering, diploma and all department examinations that come under the state education department will be held without any change. For the upcoming academic year 2021-22 too, there will be no change in the academic activities. After the examinations, there will be no summer vacation and classes will begin early. Karnataka announces Covid relief package of Rs 1250 crore for citizens hit by lockdown

BENGALURU, 19 May 2021 [Fik/News Sources]: To help citizens who have lost their livelihoods and incurred losses due to the COVID19 second wave lockdown, the Karnataka government announced an economic relief package on Wednesday. Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said at a cost of Rs 1250 crores, financial compensation, food security and moratorium has been extended to the most vulnerable sections of the citizenry in the State to mitigate the adverse impact of the lockdown. Karnataka has been under corona curfew since April 24.  "The economic relief package is to help farmers, unorganised sector workers and comes at a cost of more than Rs 1250 crores. Electrification of Konkan Railway to be completed by December

Bhatkal, 06 June 2021 [Fik/News Sources]: The electrification of the Konkan Railway track is expected to be completed by the end of December and electric passenger train services could be launched the same month. The electrification of the 741-kilometre long railway track from Roha in Maharashtra and Thokur near Mangaluru began in 2017 with an estimated cost of Rs 1,100 crore. Electrification works between Roha and Ratnagiri and between Thokur and Karwar have been completed. Works on the 300 kilometre stretch from Ratnagiri to Karwar is presently underway. Sources said that 80 per cent of the works on this line have been completed. The tracks from Roha to Mumbai CST comes under Central Railway and is already electrified. Currently, the Konkan Railway Corporation Limited pays approximately Rs 300 crore annually for fuel.
