Sudan: Formal signing of power-sharing deal on Aug. 17

KHARTOUM, 05 August 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: A formal signing ceremony of a power-sharing deal between rival sides in Sudan will be held on Aug. 17 in the presence of leaders of various countries. On Sunday, Sudan’s ruling Transitional Military Council (TMC) and opposition alliance Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) initialed the constitutional declaration aimed at paving the way for a transition to civilian rule following the ouster of President mar Oal-Bashir. Both sides reached the power-sharing deal on Friday after marathon talks. US expands anti-terror sanctions powers

NEW YORK, 11 Sep 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: President Donald Trump on Tuesday updated authorities to tighten anti-terror sanctions powers on U.S.-designated terror groups. Trump's executive order enlarges authorities "to expand and enhance the ability of the United States to sanction terrorists and those who finance them worldwide," the White House said in announcing the new order. Morocco: Death penalty upheld for hikers' killers

RABAT, 31 Oct 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: A Moroccan anti-terrorist court on Wednesday confirmed death sentences handed down to three men who beheaded two Scandinavian women tourists in December. The court also sentenced 20 other men to prison terms ranging from 5 to 30 years. The two women -- 24-year-old Danish student Louisa Vesterager Jespersen and 28-year-old Norwegian Maren Ueland -- were on a hiking trip in the High Atlas Mountains when they were murdered. On July 18, the court ruled against the three men and ordered them and their accomplices to pay nearly $200,000 in compensation to Ueland’s family. It turned down a request from Jespersen’s family for a larger amount in compensation from the Moroccan state.
