UN, 11 Jun 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Sunday called for an investigation of air strikes believed to have been carried out by Russian jets in Syria, killing dozens including children. The air attack on the night of June 7 to 8 targeted the village of Zardana in Idlib province and left 44 dead including six children, according to the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. In a statement, Guterres expressed "deep concern" about the strikes and called for a "full investigation into the attacks, especially allegations that there was also a second strike targeting first responders, to establish accountability." Police headquarters in the capital Abuja said Plateau police commissioner Undie Adie has been redeployed and replaced with Bala Ciroma, a top shot from the criminal investigation and intelligence department. The killings were reportedly a reprisal for the alleged killing of some Fulani herders and stealing or killing of cows allegedly by local Berom tribesmen. In a statement titled "Bangladesh-Myanmar: The Danger of Forced Rohingya Repatriation" on Monday, the group criticized the deal between Myanmar and Bangladesh for the Nov. 15 repatriation of more than 2,000 Rohingya refugees. “Myanmar and Bangladesh should halt the plan and instead work to create conditions conducive to a safe and dignified return,” the ICG said.
