Teachers salaries on chopping block if schools underperform
Bengaluru, 01 July 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: In order to crack down on the underperforming aided schools, the Department of Education has decided to take action. One of the measures mentioned in a circular released by the department is a cut in the salaries of the teaching staff. There are about 9000 aided schools in Karnataka and the department will be analysing the data of the last five years. If any schools are found to be consistently underperforming, the salaries of these institutions will be cut. Schools that do not meet the standards could face de-recognition. Burqa or shawl? College lands students in a fix
Bengaluru, 04 July 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: Is this an act of moral policing? Girls of a particular religion studying at the Government First Grade College, Koppa in Chikkamagaluru have been asked not to wear scarves while attending classes. They have however been allowed to wear scarves or burqa upto the waiting room at the college from their homes and on their return back from college. This decision by the college authorities comes after the Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarathi Parishad (ABVP) made an appeal to the authorities concerned of the college to bar girls of a particular community from wearing burqa. Siddaramaiah made member of Congress Working Committee
Bengaluru, 18 July 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: Former chief minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, has been given the membership of Congress Working Committee (CWC), which happens to be the highest policy-making body of the Congress in the country. There was a perception that after the defeat of Congress in the state, Siddaramaiah was being relegated in terms of importance in his party.
