Karnataka daylong power cuts return, more so on weekends

BENGALURU, 14 Mar 2022 [Fik/News Sources]: It is just the beginning of summer and already, Bengaluru is experiencing power cuts stretching for an entire day, especially during weekends. There is more pain to come as Bescom officials said that scheduled and unscheduled power cuts in different areas will continue for another six to eight months as they are racing against a deadline to shift all overhead cables underground before the onset of monsoon.  The power supply company is resorting to power cuts despite the state reporting surplus production of power.  While the work continues during the week, the major part is taken up during weekends leading to power cuts from 10 am to 7 pm, they explained. “It has been the third consecutive weekend where there have been power cuts. Surge in COVID-19 cases: Next few weeks crucial, say experts

Bengaluru, 11 June 2022 [Fik/News Sources]: Karnataka, that has been consistently maintaining a Test Positivity Rate (TPR) of less than 1% since mid-March, is seeing a slight rise in this vital parameter in the last ten days. The State’s daily TPR rose from 0.74% on May 24 to 2.31% on June 10. As many as 4,657 positive cases have been reported since May 24. Of these, as many as 1,950 cases have been reported in the last five days alone. From 471 cases on Thursday, the State reported 525 cases on Friday. Overall, 95% of the total cases are from Bengaluru Urban alone. Although the State’s COVID-19 Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) that met on June 6 had said that the situation is still fluctuating, the number of new cases have nearly doubled since then - from 230 on June 6  to 525 on June 10. Gauri Lankesh murder trial: Defence derails attention from Hindutva links

Bengaluru, 06 July 2022 [Fik/News Sources]: Almost five years after journalist Gauri Lankesh was shot dead in Bangalore, her murder trial began on Monday in a lower court of the city. The defence lawyers intensively cross-examined the victim’s sister Kavitha Lankesh. The lawyers reportedly aimed to divert the court’s attention from the Hindutva groups allegedly involved in Gauri’s murder. While arguing the case, they tried to establish that the slain journalist had links with Naxals. As per the report of the Special Investigation Team (SIT), 18 persons who were accused of the murder, belonged to a secretive group.
