One killed as Yemeni VP’s convoy hits bomb in Marib

MARIB, 19 July 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: A senior military officer was killed on Wednesday when the convoy of Yemeni Vice-President Ali Mohsen Saleh struck a roadside bomb in the eastern city of Marib, according to a local military source.   Brigadier-General Mohamed Saleh al-Ahmar was killed and several other people were injured in the attack in Al-Ruwaik area in northeastern Marib, the source said on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to media.   The Yemeni Vice-President was unhurt in the attack, he said.   No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.   Yemen has been wracked by war since 2014, when Shia Houthi rebels overran much of the country, including Sanaa, forcing the Saudi-backed government to flee to

Gunmen attack governorate building in Erbil

ERBIL, 23 July 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: Gunmen on Monday attacked the governorate building in Erbil, the seat of the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) in northern Iraq.  Two gunmen broke into the building and opened fire on Kurdish forces, according to an Anadolu Agency reporter on the ground.  A Kurdish guard was reportedly injured in the attack.  According to a Kurdish security source, the gunmen were shouting “Allahu Akbar” (God is Greatest) during the attack. US Palestine refugee bill could backfire: diplomat

WASHINGTON, 02 Aug 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: A bill winding its way through Congress could have significant blowback for the U.S. should it become law, a western diplomat has warned. The proposed legislation introduced by Republican Representative Doug Lamborn seeks to limit U.S. funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to solely fund the resettlement of refugees from the 1948 Arab-Israeli war. The conflict created over 700,000 Palestinian refugees who fled or were forced from their homes.
