Mobile network or no vote, say Somwarpet villagers

Bengaluru, 14 Dec 2020 [Fik/News Sources]: Furious over the lack of mobile network connectivity and electricity, 680 voters of Koothi village in Somwarpet taluk have decided to boycott the upcoming Gram Panchayat (GP) election. The authorities have failed to convince the villagers otherwise.   Koothi, a village of 180 families which falls under Tolurushettali GP limits, 13km from Somwarpet town, appears to belong to another age. The families allege that the administration had done little to improve facilities. “Our first demand is mobile network connectivity. Bengaluru riot case: NIA arrests 17 more SDPI, PFI members

Bengaluru, 22 Dec 2020 [Fik/News Sources]: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday arrested 17 members of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) and Popular Front of India (PFI) in connection with the Bengaluru riots case. An NIA spokesperson in Delhi said, "NIA arrested 17 SDPI/PFI leaders/activists for their involvement in the violent attack and large-scale rioting at KG Halli Police Station in Bengaluru on August 11 this year following a Facebook post by Naveen, nephew of Congress MLA Akhanda Srinivas Murthy." Rs 21k crore road infrastructure boost for North Karnataka

Bengaluru, 16 Jan 2021 [Fik/News Sources]: In a major impetus for road infrastructure in north Karnataka, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has sanctioned 13 highway projects running a length of 847 km at the cost of Rs 21,000 crore. The projects include widening of the Hubballi- Dharwad bypass and Belagavi-Raichur highway and bypass road for Naragud and Navalagund towns. Virtually laying the foundation for the elevated corridor to built over Rani Chennamma Circle in Hubballi, Gadkari said all the project sanctioned will be taken up this year itself and detailed project reports are being prepared.
