Karwar, 16 April 2022 [varthabharati]: A photo of an injured young boy with multiple injuries is doing rounds across social media platforms with claims that he was killed by an Hindutva activist after watching the controversial movie The Kashmir Files.

The viral post also blames The Kashmir Files director Vivek Agnihotri and actor Anupam Kher for the killing of 18-year-old Amanullah Irfan.

The news was also carried on a few news websites after the photos went viral on WhatsApp and Facebook.

Vartha Bharati's team carried out a fact-check on the matter and found out that the photos were being shared with fake claims as against reality.

According to our findings, the incident of Amanullah Irfan’s stabbing took place in Tergaon village of Uttara Kannada district. Irfan was stabbed on April 13, Wednesday by an accused named Honappa, a resident of Tergaon. Irfan however was not killed as claimed in the posts but sustained injuries.

However, the reason for Honappa’s assault on Irfan is contrary to the claims being made in the social media posts.

Reliable sources in the village contacted by Vartha Bharati added Irfan was stabbed by Honappa after he allegedly saw Irfan abusing his mother using explicit words. After the assault, Irfan was rushed to a private hospital where he was treated for his injuries and has now been discharged from the hospital. The locals claimed that there was no link between the incident and the movie The Kashmir Files.

Based on a complaint filed by Irfan’s father, Honappa was booked by the local police and has been arrested for the same.

Locals also added that the Hindus in the village are currently organising “Devi Jatra” for the past one week and both the communities have co-operated with each other during this time without any communal tensions being reported in the region.

Haliyal Police, however, taking note of the viral posts and reports on a few websites with fake claims, have registered a case in this regard under section 295 (a) of IPC (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs.) and are further investigating the case.
