Rules say to ‘decide now’ on resignations, how can Speaker keep it pending: rebel MLAs to SC

Bengaluru, 16 July 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: Ten rebel MLAs of Karnataka’s ruling Congress-JD(S) coalition on Tuesday said in the Supreme Court that rules mandate the Speaker to “decide now” on resignation and contended that by not accepting it he has attempted to coerce them to vote for the government during trust vote. A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi is first dealing with the case of 10 lawmakers who approached the court earlier. The bench asked senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for the rebel MLAs if there was any constitutional obligation on the Speaker to decide disqualification which was initiated after the resignation. Seven of family killed as SUV crashes into tree on highway

Bengaluru, 01 August 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: Seven members of a family, including three children, were killed and another one was injured early on Wednesday when the SUV they were travelling in crashed into a roadside tree near Satara on Mumbai-Bengaluru highway in Maharashtra, police said. A senior police official from Borgaon police station said the family, hailing from Dharwad in Karnataka, was on its way to Mumbai airport to drop their two of their elderly, who were going for the Haj pilgrimage. “The accident occurred close to Kashil village near Satara around 12.45 am on Wednesday. All the seven deceased were from one family,” he said. Asst Police Sub-Inspector attempts suicide at city lodge

Mangaluru, 24 Sep 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: An Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police (ASI) under Mangaluru Police Commissionerate attempted to end his life by consuming poison at a city lodge on Monday, September 23. The victim ASI Naveen, 45, is attached to Mangaluru East Police Station.
