COVID-19: Konkan Rly, Southern Rly trains cancelled

Mangaluru, 21 March 2020 [Fik/News Sources]: Owing to low occupancy following the outbreak of novel coronavirus, Konkan Railway Corporation Limited and Southern Railway have decided to cancel few train services till Mar 31. Accordingly, services of below-mentioned trains have been suspended: Madgaon Jn – Ernakulam Jn Weekly Express (10215) on March 22 and 29. Ernakulam Jn – Madgaon Jn Weekly Express (10216) on March 23 and 30. Pernem – Madgaon Jn – Pernem DEMU Passenger (70103 / 70104) till March 31. Surathkal: Unique biological phenomenon turns sea green

Surathkal, 17 Sep 2020 [Fik/News Sources]: Two beaches here, Hodabettu and Mukka, turned green on Tuesday, September 15 due to a biological effect caused by the weather. Photos of the sea taken during the night also made it look blue. It is reported that heavy rains from some days have caused the sea to be inundated by a highly sensitive algae which often causes the water’s colour to change. Experts believe that it is only visible on the shore of the sea. However, MLA Dr Bharath Shetty Y asked to check whether sea pollution could be the cause for the colour change. Accordingly, a team from the State Pollution Control Board officer Keertikumar collected water from the sea and sent it to the lab for testing. Udupi: Blue Flag-certified Padubidri beach to open from Dec 17

Udupi, 16 Dec 2020 [Fik/News Sources]: The Udupi district administration has decided to allow domestic and foreign tourists to the blue flag-certified Padubidri beach from Thursday. All works connected with the blue flag certification have been completed with the cooperation of the Union Ministry of Environment and Society of Integrated Coastal Management (SICOM), District Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha said. The Padubidri beach had received blue flag international recognition on October 11, along with seven other beaches in the country. The recognition was awarded by an international jury of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), Denmark.
