At least 12 dead in Mali attack near Nigeria
BAMAKO, 26 Sep 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: At least 12 Tuareg civilians died Tuesday in an attack by gunmen in eastern Mali, a region hit by chronic unrest between local tribes and militants, sources said. About 200 people, many of them civilians from the Fulani and Tuareg tribes have been killed in the area this year as militants claiming allegiance to Daesh clash with local groups backing a French security force and the Malian army. The attack took place 45 kilometers (28 miles) west of Menaka according to a local official, a security source, and a statement by ex-rebels in the Movement for the Salvation of Azawad (MSA). “Armed men on motorcycles killed at least 12 civilians,” the official told AFP, citing a resident of the town who claimed to have seen the bodies. FARC dissident commander killed in Colombia
BOGOTA, 22 Dec 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: FARC dissident commander Walter Patricio Arizala, alias "Guacho", was killed by Colombian security forces in an operation near the border with Ecuador, President Ivan Duque announced Friday. Speaking to reporters in Medellin city, Duque said Arizala had been shot dead by Colombia’s "heroes". Arizala led a faction of former rebels of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) that kidnapped and murdered three Ecuadorians in March who were members of the Quito newspaper El Comercio. He was accused of drug trafficking as well as extortion and homicide and was on the most wanted lists of both Colombia and Ecuador. US denies reports of Syrian regime incursion in Manbij
WASHINGTON, 29 Dec 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: A U.S. defense official on Friday denied reports Syria's Bashar al-Assad regime forces entered Manbij. Syrian state-run SANA news agency reported earlier in the day, regime forces entered the PYD/YPG terrorist-held city after the group invited forces to take control of the region and ward off an announced Turkish operation. Turkey sees the group an extension of PKK terrorist organization. "The reports on regime incursion in Manbij are inaccurate," the official told Anadolu Agency on condition of anonymity.
