German cartoonist sacked after Netanyahu drawing

BERLIN, 20 May 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: A leading German daily fired a cartoonist over anti-semitic views on Friday after he drew a caricature of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The cartoon by Dieter Hanitzsch showed Netanyahu carrying a missile in his hand. He is dressed up as Israeli singer Netta Barzilai, who won this year’s Eurovision contest. A speech bubble on top says: "Next year in Jerusalem." The cartoon led to an uproar on social media and other German media outlets. Suddeutsche Zeitung’s Editor-in-Chief Wolfgang Krach apologized for the caricature, however Hanitzsch refused. Pompeo meets top North Korean official over dinner

Seoul, 31 May 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: Kim Yong-chol, the right-hand man of leader Kim Jong-un, is the most senior North Korean official to visit the US in 18 years. His trip aims to salvage the June 12 meeting between leaders of the two countries. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and a top North Korean official met in New York on Wednesday over a steak dinner to try to salvage next month's summit between the North Korean and US leaders. Kim Yong-chol, considered the right-hand man of leader Kim Jong-un, was the most senior North Korean official to visit the US in 18 years. UN: Death toll in Nigeria's cholera outbreak hits 97

LAGOS, 23 September 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: The death toll in Nigeria's cholera outbreak in the northeastern Borno and Yobe states has risen to 97, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) said in a statement late Friday. "A cholera outbreak has been declared in Yobe State, north-east Nigeria, by the State Ministry of Health, two weeks after a cholera outbreak was declared in neighboring Borno State,” the statement said. "The cumulative number of recorded cases in both states currently stands at 3,126 including 97 deaths." The statement said Yobe alone has recorded a total of 989 cases of suspected cholera and 61 deaths across five local government areas as of Sept. 20, representing a case fatality rate of 6.2 percent.
