ADDIS ABABA, 14 Oct 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: Eritrean President Isaias Afeworki arrived in Addis Ababa early on Sunday for a two-day visit. Ethiopian Prime Minster Abiy Ahmed welcomed Afeworki at the Addis Ababa Bole international airport. This is the second visit to Addis Ababa by the Eritrean president since relations between both countries thawed after decades of tension. The visit was meant to discuss the implementation of the comprehensive cooperation agreement the two countries signed on July 9. Eritrea seceded from Ethiopia in 1993, and from 1998 to 2000 the two countries fought a bloody war in which an estimated 70,000 people perished on both sides. The foreign ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the U.K., U.S. and the High Representative of the European Union affirmed "commitment to defending freedom of expression and protection of a free press" in a written statement. Read More...DHAKA, 01 Apr 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: At least 10 people were killed and dozens other injured as a tropical storm lashed different parts of Bangladesh, including capital Dhaka, on Sunday evening, local media reports said. The storm, coupled with gusty winds and lightning uprooted trees, sunk a boat, blew away bricks from buildings and collapsed a wall, reports said citing police and Met Office as sources. Of the deceased, six were killed in Dhaka, including a woman and her five-year-old son who drowned when a boat capsized in River Buriganga during the storm.
