Section 144 imposed around all high schools in Udupi from Feb 14 to 19

Udupi, 13 Feb 2022 [Fik/News Sources]: Amid the hijab row, prohibitory orders under Section 144 have been imposed around all high schools in Udupi district. The prohibitory orders will come into effect at 6 am on Monday, February 14, and remain enforced till 6 pm on Saturday, February 19. This means that all gatherings and agitations are banned in the area around high schools in the district till Saturday. Section 144 was imposed after the Superintendent of Police made a request to Deputy Commissioner in Udupi, Kurma Rao. He requested that prohibitory orders be enforced in 200-metre radius area around high schools in the district. Karnataka hijab ban stays, court says not essential religious practice

Bengaluru, 15 Mar 2022 [Fik/News Sources]: A hijab is not an essential religious practice, the Karnataka High Court said today in a huge setback to students who had challenged a ban on wearing the hijab in class. Five petitions had challenged the ban in court. Ahead of the order, the state government banned large gatherings for a week in state capital Bengaluru "to maintain public peace and order". Mangalore too banned large gatherings from March 15 to 19. Schools and colleges are closed in Udupi today.
