Egyptian summit calls for end to violence in Libya

CAIRO, 24 Apr 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: A summit held in Egypt’s capital Tuesday to discuss the political and security situation in Libya called on the warring parties to reach a truce and launch negotiations. In the summit’s closing declaration, Libya's UN-recognized Government of National Accord (GNA) and forces led by commander Khalifa Haftar were urged to stop fighting. Assad forces pound Syria’s northwest, ignoring Trump warning

MAARET AL-NUMAN, Syria, 04 June 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: Bombardments by the Syrian regime killed six civilians in north-west Syria Monday, hours after US President Donald Trump urged Damascus and its allies to “stop bombing the hell” out of the region, held by hard-line militants. Trump’s call came after US ally Israel carried out a series of strikes against Syria in recent days, killing at least 15 dead among pro-government forces, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The bombardment by Damascus and its ally Moscow of Idlib province and neighboring areas has killed more than 300 people since late April, according to the Observatory, a Britain-based war monitor. It also displaced nearly 270,000 people in May alone, according to the UN. The violence, which comes despite a truce deal brokered by Russia and

Israeli police gave no reason for the minister’s arrest.   “He was arrested as a result of pressure practiced by the Israeli right-wing on the Israeli government after Hadami joined the Chilean president’s tour in Al-Aqsa Mosque,” Jabara said in a statement.   Hamadi had accompanied Chilean President Sebastian Pinera during a visit on Tuesday to East Jerusalem’s flashpoint Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.   The visit has angered the Israeli government, which summoned
