Iran scrambled to maintain clout in protest-hit Iraq

TEHRAN, 10 Dec 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: The recent resignation of Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi against the backdrop of mass protests against his government has been greeted with caution and criticism in Iran. Protesters accuse Iran, which has backed Abdul-Mahdi to remain in his post, of meddling in Iraq's internal affair, an accusation denied by Tehran. Since the protests began in October, angry protesters attempted to set fire to the Iranian consulates in Iraq's holiest cities of Najaf and Karbala. Iranian officials, for their part, have accused foreign elements of instigating chaos and instability in Iraq. Humanitarian catastrophe looms in Syria's Idlib

ANKARA, 24 Dec 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: Intense attacks by Bashar al-Assad's regime, Russia and Iran backed-groups have forced thousands of civilians to flee from Syria's Idlib province which has been designated de-escalation zone. Since the offensive began last week, the regime and its allies have launched a military campaign mainly in the cities of Maarat Al-Numan and Saraqib as well as the surrounding rural areas. The offensive has targeted hospitals, schools, mosques and houses to force civilians out of the cities and keep them away from their homes, according to Syria's Response Coordination Group. Despite a de-escalation zone in the region, the regime and its allies have captured 26 villages. Syria: Turkish operations spook Hezbollah militias
