NHRC Terming Trinamool Leaders As ‘Goons’ in Report Stirs Row

New Delhi, 17 July 2021 [Fik/News Sources]: In its report on post-poll violence in West Bengal submitted to the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) labelled several Trinamool Congress MLAs, councillors and leaders as “notorious criminals/goons”, triggering a political controversy in the state with several leaders threatening to take legal action against the rights body. The leaders not only questioned the integrity of the commission, but also accused it of showing vindictive attitude. 'UAPA in its present form poses serious threat to democracy': Ex-babus in open letter

New Delhi, 17 Aug 2021 [Fik/News Sources]: The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in its present form poses a serious threat to the freedom of citizens and to democracy, and the government should enact a fresh legislation to replace it, a group of former bureaucrats has said in an open letter. The UAPA has a chequered history, they said. Hathras detainee Atikur Rahman in threat of custodial murder, say spouse, CFI activists

New Delhi, 28 Aug 2021 [Fik/News Sources]: On August 27, Hathras detainee Atikur Rahman’s family expressed their concern about Atikur’s health in the press meet gathered at Press Club of India, New Delhi. He has been admitted to the jail hospital for the past four days.
