US planning Afghanistan troop drawdown: Report

WASHINGTON, 22 Dec 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: U.S. President Donald Trump is planning a "substantial" drawdown of American forces from Afghanistan, The Wall Street Journal said Thursday.  The Journal reported that over 7,000 American troops will be withdrawn from Afghanistan, around half of the size of the U.S. presence in the country. The U.S. currently has roughly 14,000 troops in Afghanistan and has been in the country since it invaded in 2001 following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.  The Journal noted the drawdown could begin in the coming weeks. Myanmar: 2 get death penalty for Muslim lawyer’s murder

YANGON, 16 Feb 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: A Myanmar court on Friday sentenced two defendants to death over the assassination of a leading Muslim lawyer who was also the aide of de facto leader of the country. The 63-year-old Ko Ni, who was the legal advisor to the ruling party leader Aung San Suu Kyi, was shot in the head by a gunman at Yangon International Airport on Jan. 29, 2017. Gunman Kyi Lin, who was arrested shortly after the shooting, reportedly confessed to having been hired by a group of three ex-military officers and a businessman to assassinate Ni. Upon this, police arrested Zaw, Zeya Phyo, and Aung Win Tun, suspected as co-conspirators, in February 2017.
