UN blacklists Myanmar's army for sexual violence
WASHINGTON, 17 Apr 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: The United Nations on Monday added Myanmar’s armed forces to its blacklist of groups "credibly suspected" of carrying out sexual violence in areas of armed conflict for the first time. “The widespread threat and use of sexual violence was integral to [their] strategy, serving to humiliate, terrorize and collectively punish the Rohingya community as a calculated tool to force them to flee their homelands and prevent their return," it said in a report on Myanmar’s military, also known as the Tatmadaw. "The violence is linked with an inflammatory narrative alleging that high fertility rates among the Rohingya community represent an existential threat to the majority population," the report said. Taliban attacks kill 14 policemen in Afghanistan's Ghazni - official
Ghazni, 22 May 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: The Taliban launched a wave of attacks in Afghanistan's eastern province of Ghazni, killing at least 14 police officers, including a district police chief and a reserve unit's commander, Afghan officials said on Tuesday. Provincial council member Hassan Reza Yusoufi said seven of the officers were killed in the district of Dih Yak, including Faizullah Toofan, the police chief, and reserve commander Haji Baraket. Another seven were killed in Jaghatu district. The attacks started on Monday night and continued on Tuesday in Dih Yak, Jaghatu, Ajristan and Qarabagh districts, according to Arif Noori, spokesman for the provincial governor. Tensions escalate as China fires missiles around Taiwan
ISTANBUL, 04 Aug 2022 [Fik/News Sources]: In a show of power and anger against US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan, the Chinese military Thursday launched missiles around the self-ruled island.
