US coronavirus death toll surpasses 55,000

ANKARA, 28 April 2020 [Fik/News Sources]: The death toll in the US from the novel coronavirus has surpassed the 55,000 mark, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University Monday. The Maryland-based university's running tally counted 55,118 deaths and 972,969 cases. The US continues to lead worldwide cases and deaths related to the virus. Italy registers 26,644 deaths, followed by Spain with 23,521. More than 107,200 people have recovered in the country, according to the data. New York is the worst-hit state by the pandemic with 22,269 deaths and more than 288,000 cases, followed by New Jersey with 5,976 deaths and over 110,200 cases. COVID-19 could infect hospital wards in 10 hours: Scientists

LONDON, 09 June 2020 [Fik/News Sources]: COVID-19 could be capable of infecting an entire hospital ward in just 10 hours, according to researchers in the UK. Scientists at University College London (UCL) and Great Ormond Street Hospital also found that the virus could remain active on surfaces in such an environment for over five days, reinforcing the need for medical staff to employ rigorous hygiene and disinfection methods in facilities even not known to have been exposed to COVID-19. Bangladesh reimposes restrictions for places of worship

DHAKA, 14 June 2020 [Fik/News Sources]: Bangladesh on Saturday reimposed restrictions on mosques and other places of worship amid a surge in coronavirus cases and fatalities. Limits have been set on the number of people allowed at places of worship in areas designated as “red zones,” the Religious Affairs Ministry said in a statement. In the capital Dhaka, areas with over 60 COVID-19 patients per 100,000 people have been classified as red zones, while the number is down to 10 for other areas around the country.
