US secretary of state to visit Southeast Asia
WASHINGTON, 31 July 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will be traveling to three Southeast Asian nations in early August to discuss bilateral ties and regional security issues, the State Department said Monday. Pompeo will visit Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia from Aug. 1-5. In Singapore, he will also participate in ministerial meetings of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). “[Pompeo] will engage his fellow foreign ministers on the region's most pressing security challenges, promote the rules-based order, reinforce our commitment to partnerships in the lower Mekong region and reaffirm U.S. dedication to ASEAN and our friends and allies in the region,” spokesperson Heather Nauert said in a press statement. West plotting against Turkey: Qaradawi
ISTANBUL, 05 Nov 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: Prominent Muslim scholar Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi has accused the West of plotting against Turkey to derail its advancement. “Turkey is facing plots by those who don’t like to see this nation [rising] and by the West,” al-Qaradawi, the chairman of the International Union for Muslim Scholars (IUMS), told the opening session of the IUMS’s general assembly in Istanbul on Saturday. “They would have succeeded [in their plots] but for Allah’s support for President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his brothers,” he said. “Allah will help Erdogan to emerge victorious as long as true Muslims are standing by him,” Al-Qaradawi added. Afghans protest against civilian casualties in raids
KABUL, 22 Nov 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: Hundreds of Afghan protesters on Wednesday closed down the main highway connecting capital Kabul with southeastern provinces in a protest against the alleged killings of civilians in a security operation. The protesters claimed security forces killed seven civilians of a family and wounded 15 more in the Mohammad Agha district of Logar province last night. They demanded justice and actions against perpetrators of the incident. When contacted, Shamshad Dilawari, spokesman for the governor, told Anadolu Agency an operation was indeed conducted in the area, but he declined to confirm the civilian casualties.
