Buddhist group in shakeup over alleged misconduct

TRENTON, 31 July 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: What is probably the largest Buddhist organization in the western world announced Monday from its Canadian headquarters a transition in leadership plan after its leader stepped aside amid sexual misconduct accusations. Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, spiritual leader of the Shambhala International community, removed himself three weeks ago pending an investigation into the allegations. Denmark considers adding jail terms to veil ban

COPENHAGEN, 11 August July 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: Denmark has been discussing adding jail terms to a controversial ban on the wearing of face veils in public that came into force on Aug. 1. Rachid Nekkaz, a French business executive of Algerian origin, has launched a fund against the burqa ban, which he called "illegal", and has paid fines of over 500 women who defied similar bans in six countries. UN warns of growing humanitarian crisis in CAR

JOHANNESBURG, 22 Nov 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: The humanitarian crisis in the Central African Republic (CAR) continues to deteriorate at an alarming rate, with 2.9 million people in need of assistance, the UN warned on Wednesday. “The world cannot turn a blind eye to what is happening in the CAR. We are back to square one,” United Nations humanitarian coordinator for the African nation Najat Rochdi said in a statement. Rochdi said militants have increased attacks on civilians forcing thousands to flee their homes and making it difficult for humanitarian workers to do their job. “By the end of October, over 338 incidents against humanitarian workers have been recorded making the CAR one of the most dangerous places on earth for humanitarian workers,” the UN representative added.
