Humanitarian situation in Yemen 'bleak': UN

WASHINGTON, 22 September 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: The UN on Friday called the humanitarian situation in Yemen "bleak" and said they are losing the battle against famine in the country. Mark Lowcock, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator (OCHA), made the comments while briefing the Security Council on the humanitarian situation in Yemen. Lowcock said millions of people across the country are at risk of dying due to food scarcity and that the situation has deteriorated in an "alarming" fashion. "We are already seeing pockets of famine-like conditions -- including cases where people are eating leaves because they have no other form of sustenance." Ex-OIC chief welcomes court ruling on defaming Prophet

ANKARA, 27 Oct 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: A former head of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed a European Court of Human Rights' (ECHR) decision that penalized defaming of the Prophet Muhammed. UN: 84 die while fleeing Daesh in Syria

GENEVA, 02 Mar 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: At least 84 people fleeing Daesh-held areas in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor have died since last December either en route or shortly after arriving at the al-Hol camp, according to a UN official on Friday. “The UN in Syria remains gravely concerned about the plight of thousands of civilians fleeing the last [Daesh]-held areas of Al-Baghouz in rural Deir-Ez-Zor governorate after intense hostilities in the area,” Jens Laerke, spokesman of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) told reporters in Geneva.
