Turkish army defuses 650 IEDs, 80 landmines in Afrin

AFRIN, 31 Mar 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: Turkish military has defused nearly 650 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and 80 landmines since the start of Operation Olive Branch in northwestern Syria's Afrin, according to military sources. Soldiers and sniffer dogs are taking part in the search for explosives, said the sources who refused to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media. Turkish forces continue to search for more IEDs and landmines to make possible the safe return of people to their homes, the sources added. 27 journalists killed in Yemen since 2014: NGO

MAARIB, 10 Jun 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: A total of 27 journalists have been killed since the outbreak of Yemen’s civil war in 2014, the Yemeni Journalists Syndicate, an NGO, said Saturday.   “The press freedom [in Yemen] is going through very difficult conditions and has been subject to a systematic war since 2014," the syndicate said in a statement marking the Yemeni Press Day, which falls on June 9.   According to the statement, a total of 27 journalists “have lost their lives for the sake of fulfilling the right of the society to obtain information”.    The syndicate said media outlets in Yemen have been looted, journalists and photographers chased and hundreds of news portals blocked.   It called for the release of 12 journalists held by Houthi rebels and another

Israeli police arrest 2 Palestinian girls in Jerusalem

JERUSALEM, 10 Sep 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: Israeli police on Sunday detained two Palestinian girls as they left East Jerusalem’s flashpoint Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.  “Police forces held my 15-year-old daughter shortly after leaving the mosque,” her mother Jihad al-Razzam told Anadolu Agency.  She said her 21-year-old niece was also detained.  No information was yet available about the reason of their detention.  Earlier, Israeli forces arrested an employee with Jerusalem Islamic Waqf, a Jordan-run organization responsible for overseeing the city's Islamic sites.  Tension has mounted in the Palestinian territories -- including occupied East Jerusalem, where the Al-Aqsa is located -- since U.S. President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.  For
