UAE says 7 Emiratis, 2 Egyptians held by Iran freed

ISTANBUL, 14 Mar 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday received from Iranian authorities seven Emiratis and two Egyptians, who had been held in Iran since late January, the UAE Foreign Ministry said. “The UAE received the individuals, who were held captive by Iran since the end of January 2019 following a fishing trip in the Arabian Gulf waters,” the UAE’s official news agency (WAM) quoted the ministry’s statement as saying. American hero Rachel Corrie killed by Israel remembered

Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika resigns

ALGIERS, 03 Apr 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika bowed to popular demand Tuesday and resigned after over a month of protests over his decision to seek a fifth term, state news agency APS reported. Bouteflika said in his resignation letter that his decision to leave office -- which came weeks before his term expires on April 28 -- was aimed at “preventing grave results” in the country, according to APS. He said his intention was to “contribute to calming the souls and minds of the people so they can collectively take Algeria to the better future they aspire to”.
