Airstrike in Syria kills S. African doctor, says lawyer

JOHANNESBURG, 14 Mar 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: A South African doctor volunteering at a refugee camp in Syria has been killed in an airstrike, his lawyer said on Wednesday.  “I received the sad news that Dr. Feroz Ganchi was killed in an airstrike in Baghouz in Syria, days ago. I don’t have much details,” Yousha Tayob told Anadolu Agency via phone. He said Ganchi was passionate about helping people affected by war, and was currently involved in medical and Islamic humanitarian work in Syria. EU opposes capital punishment in Saudi Arabia

BRUSSELS, 03 Apr 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: EU foreign policy chief Tuesday said the bloc opposes capital punishments in Saudi Arabia where the number this year passed 45. "The European Union is unequivocally opposed to the use of capital punishment in all cases and without exception," Federica Mogherini said in an official statement. "The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia executed in the past days four people convicted for drug trafficking offenses. These recent executions bring the number of people put to death since January 2019 to over 45," she said. Israeli Labor Party rejects Netanyahu’s coalition offer

JERUSALEM, 30 May 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: Israeli Labor Party refused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s offer to join a coalition, a local daily reported on Wednesday. “Senior Israeli Labor Party members said that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu offered the post of justice minister to Shelli Yachimovich and support for the candidacy of Amir Peretz for the next president of the state,” according to the Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth.
