‘Pakistan Wali Gali’ residents urge govt to change colony’s name

New Delhi, 31 July 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: Residents of “Pakistan Wali Gali” in Greater Noida on Tuesday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to change the name of their colony as they were not being able to access basic amenities provided by the government due to their locality’s name. The area got the name “Pakistan Wali Gali” after some people came and settled down there from Pakistan during Partition. The residents, however, said that if their ancestors came from Pakistan it was not their fault. “We are Indians. Only four of our ancestors came here from Pakistan a long time ago. Ravidas temple demolition sparks clashes, over 50 protesters including Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad arrested

New Delhi, 22 August 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: Over 50 protesters, including the Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad, were detained by the Delhi Police after a Dalit protest over demolition of Saint Ravidas temple turned violent in south Delhi”s Tughlakabad area on Wednesday. The Delhi Police resorted to mild lathicharge and used tear gas to disperse the violent agitators after they set ablaze couple of two-wheelers and attacked a police vehicle. They also pelted stones. According to a senior police official, Azad was taken to the Kalkaji police station in southeast district in night and is being questioned. The police may lodge an FIR against for rioting and unlawful activities. Bhim Army claimed that the police fired at the protesters, but the police denied that. Ravish Kumar receives prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award

New Dehli, 10 Sep 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: NDTV India’s Managing Editor, Ravish Kumar on Monday was conferred the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award for “harnessing journalism to give voice to the voiceless” and his “unfaltering commitment to professional, ethical journalism of the highest standards”.
