DHAKA, 12 Jan 2020 [Fik/News Sources]: A Bangladeshi youth was allegedly killed by Indian forces near the border district of Lalmonirhat on Friday, a Bangladeshi police officer said on Saturday.

“No one has formally lodged any complaint to us regarding the killing. But, we collected information from our own channels and have been confirmed about the killing of a Bangladeshi youth,” Sumon Kumar Mohonta, a local police station chief, told Anadolu Agency.

The post-mortem of the dead body was carried out in India since the incident took place on the Indian territory, Mohonta added.

“We hope that the dead body will be handed over to Bangladesh through flag meeting between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF),” he said.

Citing relatives of deceased and locals, the police official said an uncle of the 26-year-old victim has a residence on the Indian side of the border and he illegally crossed the border to visit it and was caught by India’s BSF.

Meanwhile, BGB has sent a letter to the BSF for a flag meeting over the incident, the United News of Bangladesh news agency reported, quoting a commander in the region.

With the latest incident, three Bangladeshis have been killed by India’s BSF in less than a week, according to the news agency.

On Jan. 1, Bangladesh's Foreign Minister A K Abdul Momen expressed concerns over “sharp rise in border killing”.
