Mumbai based lawyer Sagheer Ahmed offers Rs 25 lakh for travel of migrants, moves SC

New Delhi, 14 May 2020 [Fik/News Sources]: A Mumbai-based lawyer, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, has moved a plea in the Supreme Court seeking directions to ensure transportation of migrants from Mumbai to their native places in Uttar Pradesh. The lawyer has offered Rs 25 lakh towards the cost of travel of the migrants belonging to districts Basti and Sant Kabir Nagar, irrespective of their caste, creed or religion. Advocate Sagheer Ahmed Khan moved the plea through advocate-on-record Ejaz Maqbool. The petitioner said that he is well conversant with the plight of the migrants who are left to fend for themselves in this national crisis. Following Objections of Hindu Groups, Meat Export Authority Removes ‘Halal’ from Manual

New Delhi, 06 Jan 2020 [Fik/News Sources]: The government authority that regulates export of meat and agri-products from India has removed “Halal” word from the manual for red meat, a decision taken after objection from the Hindu groups who alleged the tag gives undue advantage to Muslim exporters. According to a report published in the Hindustan Times, the older manual said, “…The animals are slaughtered strictly according to the ‘Halal’ method to meet the requirement of Islamic countries”.
