Sri Lanka declares state of emergency after president flees

COLOMBO, 13 July 2022 [Fik/News Sources]: Sri Lanka declared a state of emergency Wednesday as thousands of people mobbed the prime minister’s office after the country’s president flew to the Maldives, following months of widespread protests against an economic crisis. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had promised at the weekend to resign on Wednesday and clear the way for a “peaceful transition of power” after fleeing his official residence in Colombo just before tens of thousands of protesters overran it. As president, Rajapaksa enjoys immunity from arrest, and he is believed to have wanted to go abroad before stepping down to avoid the possibility of being detained. China, Rwanda strengthen bilateral ties

ANKARA, 24 July 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: China and Rwanda strengthened bilateral relations by signing 15 agreements during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s official visit to the east African country's capital on Monday. Rwandan President Paul Kagame received his Chinese counterpart in Kigali. Erdogan names AK Party's new executive board members

ANKARA, 19 August July 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday named members of ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party's Central Executive Board (MYK). The 16-member strong MYK now has nine new names. AK Party's new 50-member Central Decision and Executive Board (MKYK) had gathered in capital Ankara to determine the new MYK tasked with assisting Erdogan as the party's deputy chairmen. Former Culture and Tourism minister Numan Kurtulmus was assigned as acting chairman while Omer Celik, former minister of Turkey's EU Affairs, is now AK Party's new spokesman.
