Daily COVID-19 caseload hits a new low in Karnataka

Bengaluru, 31 May 2021 [Fik/News Sources]: The daily number of Covid-19 positive cases is seeing a consistent decline, with Sunday witnessing an addition of 20,378 new cases — the lowest since April 19 when 15,785 cases were added in a day. The state had seen 50,112 cases added in a day on May 5, which is the highest single-day addition that the state has seen since the beginning of the pandemic, followed by 49,058 on May 6 and 48,781 the next day. The state’s Covid-19 tally stands at 25,87,827, but the positivity rate has been steadily rising since April 5, currently standing at 8.73 per cent, up from 8.71 per cent on Saturday. CM Yediyurappa to hold meeting on lifting lockdown restrictions in a day or two

Bengaluru, 08 June 2021 [Fik/News Sources]: Amid talks that Karnataka may start the unlock process by lifting restrictions after June 14, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa is likely to hold a meeting in a day or two, to discuss the matter and take a call.  Meanwhile, Bengaluru logged less than 2,000 fresh COVID-19 cases on June 7. It accounted for less than 1/5th of the 11,958 cases reported in Karnataka on Monday. This is the first time in over two months that the city is reporting less than 2,000 COVID-19 cases in a day. Seafarer from Bhatkal abandoned by employers in Iran stranded for 19 months

Bhatkal, 18 July 2021 [thenewsminute]: A 31-year-old man from Bhatkal in Karnataka who left for Iran to work as a seafarer on a cargo ship has been left stranded at the port for 19 months. The seafarer has not had any contact for the last six months with either the owners of the ship or the agency that got him the job. The situation has forced Yaseen Shah to live near the dock of the Khorramshahr port in Iran. Yaseen landed in Iran in January 2020 but due to the effects of the pandemic, the ship (Payam 2) IMO 8748452 he was working on did not leave the port in Iran. Yaseen has not been paid wages for more than a year, and the Iranian agent who recruited him has held onto his passport.
