Argentinians protest US intervention in Venezuela
BUENOS AIRES, 06 Feb 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: Hundreds of Argentinians held a demonstration Tuesday in the capital Buenos Aires against U.S. intervention in Venezuela. Non-governmental organizations, trade unions and student clubs gathered at the University of Buenos Aires and marched to the U.S. embassy. The crowd chanted slogans such as "End U.S. pressure on Latin America!” and “Establish dialogue and peace in Venezuela!” The demonstrators said peace will only be achieved through dialogue, not by a military coup. On Jan. 23, opposition leader Juan Guaido, who heads Venezuela’s National Assembly, declared himself interim president following mass protests over the country’s economic conditions. ANKARA, 02 June 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: A recent attack on a Muslim cemetery in Greece shows the rise of Islamophobia and racism both there and throughout the continent, according to an expert on the region. A Muslim cemetery in the city of Alexandroupolis was found on Tuesday to have suffered an attack by unknown assailants, who left behind damaged tombstones scrawled with racist slogans. The city lies in Western Thrace, a region of Greece with a substantial ethnic Turkish population of about 150,000. Nazi symbols and the logo of the Greek far-right political party, Golden Dawn, were spray-painted on the Muslim tombstones, and leaflets of the party littered the cemetery.
