Armed attacks kill 10 in Burkina Faso
DAKAR, 30 Sep 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: At least 10 people, including a soldier, were killed in two terrorist attacks in Burkina Faso, state media reported Sunday. An unidentified group of motorcyclists carried out an armed attack Saturday on the Dungeon village of Bam province in the northern part of the country, Burkina Faso Information Agency reported. Nine civilians were killed in the attack. Separately, a soldier was killed in an attack targeting patrol troops in Deou village of Soum province. Security forces launched an operation in the region after the attacks. The state of emergency continues in seven of the 13 regions of the country. 30 killed in bus accident in western DR Congo
ANKARA, 21 Oct 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: At least 30 people were killed and several others injured in a bus accident in the Democratic Republic of Congo, officials said. The accident occurred on Sunday in the western Mbanza-Ngungu city. Vital Kamerhe, chief of staff of the country’s president said at least 30 people were killed and 16 others injured. "The President of the Republic, who was invited to attend the enthronement of the Emperor of Japan, has decided to cancel this trip as a result of this accident," Kamerhe said in a statement. Didier Nsimba, an administrative official of Mbanza-Ngungu city, confirmed the accident, saying it occurred as a result of brake failure. Trump signs into law 2020 defense spending bill
WASHINGTON, 21 Dec 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: U.S. President Donald Trump signed into law Friday the 2020 defense spending bill. The 2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) authorizes a top-line budget of $738 billion, which includes $635 billion for base Pentagon spending, $23.1 billion for Energy Department nuclear weapons programs, $71.5 billion for war operations and $5.3 billion for emergency disaster recovery for military bases. The bill includes the building of 100 new F-35 jets, 155 Army helicopters, 165 Abrams tanks, two new Virginia-class submarines, among others. It creates the U.S. military's sixth branch, Space Force, and gives troops a 3.1% pay raise as well as 12-week paid leave for federal workers.
