'Extremist' kills two in Sudan mosque attack

KHARTOUM, 29 Mar 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: Two people were stabbed to death -- and five others injured -- by a knife-wielding “extremist” in Sudan’s eastern Kassala province, local police said Wednesday. “An extremist attempted to deliver a sermon after evening prayers [on Tuesday] at a Kassala mosque,” Police Major-General Yahiya al-Hadi told Anadolu Agency. “After mosque administrators prevented him from doing so, he took out a knife and murdered the mosque’s imam and one worshipper,” he said. According to the police officer, the extremist -- who was not identified by name -- was himself later killed by worshippers inside the mosque. Afghan president asks Taliban to take part in elections

KABUL, 15 Apr 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Saturday called upon the Taliban to take part in the forthcoming district and parliamentary elections in the war-ravaged country. Launching the voters’ registration process for the long-due polls, Ghani told the media at the presidential palace in capital Kabul that this was the right moment for the Taliban to commence political activities. “If they [Taliban] believe they have roots among the people in Afghanistan then elections is a chance,” he said, adding Afghans could decide about the fate of the Taliban as a political party. Twin blasts kill 21, including journalists in Kabul

KABUL, 30 Apr 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: At least 21 people, including nine journalists and cameramen were killed and 40 others injured in two suspected suicide blasts during the morning rush hour in capital Kabul Monday, according to police and health officials. Police spokesman Hashmat Stanikzai told Anadolu Agency the first blast was carried out by a suspected suicide bomber riding a motorcycle who targeted government employees in the Shash Darak area inside the supposedly highly-secure green zone of the city at around 8 a.m. (0330 GMT). “The second attack was carried out by suicide bomber among journalists and security forces who had gathered near the site of the first blast,” Stanikzai said.
