Fire razes 126 houses of Filipino Muslims on Eid day

ZAMBOANGA, 17 Jun 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: The supposed joyous celebration of the Eid al-Fitr on Friday turned tragic when a fire engulfed 126 houses of Muslim residents in southern Philippines, local media reported. Fire authorities said on Saturday that more than 150 Muslim families rendered homeless when the massive fire razed at least 126 houses in Bayugan city of Agusan del Sur province. "We fear that [the number of displaced families] might rise as the course of the investigation moves along, since the houses in this area are mostly made up of shanty or improvised shacks and some are constructed just next to another,” Fire Inspector Paul Jorge Barrozo is quoted as saying by Inquirer News. UK: David Davis resigns as Brexit Secretary

LONDON, 09 July 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: David Davis has resigned as Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, according to media reports.  The Brexit Secretary’s resignation follows growing tension in the cabinet of Theresa May over her vision of a post-Brexit relationship with the EU.  Davis had also clashed with May over her Customs Union plan with the EU that would see the U.K. closely aligned to the EU when it comes to trade. Libya: 156 undocumented migrants rescued in open waters

TRIPOLI, 19 July 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: At least 156 undocumented migrants have been rescued off Libya's northwestern coast, the country’s navy said early Thursday. In a statement, naval forces affiliated with Libya’s UN-recognized unity government said the migrants were rescued 26 miles off the coast of the northwestern city of Khoms, located east of the capital Tripoli. Among the rescued, 10 of them were children and 24 were women.
