Joe Biden projected to win Michigan Democratic primary

WASHINGTON, 11 March 2020 [Fik/News Sources]: Former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden defeated Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in Michigan, the biggest prize among the six states holding primaries Tuesday, according to projections by multiple news outlets.  With 60% of precincts reporting, Biden has 53% of the vote compared to Sanders, with 39.1%. The state has 125 delegates up for grabs. Sanders nearly won the 2016 Democratic primary. Tuesday's contest includes Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Idaho, North Dakota and Washington, offering a total of 352 delegates. Biden is also projected to win the Mississippi, Missouri and Idoha primaries.  According to The Hill website, Biden garnered 80% of the vote in Mississippi and Sanders 15%, with 88% of precincts reporting.  The former vice president received

Italy reports 236 new deaths, record drop in infections

ROME, 06 May 2020 [Fik/News Sources]: Italy on Tuesday reported 236 new fatalities from coronavirus, bringing the total to 29,315, a day after the country entered the so-called phase 2 of the emergency. Data released by the country's Civil Protection Department confirmed that Italy has passed the peak of the outbreak, as more than 4 million people on Monday went back to work after two months of strict lockdown. Under the phase 2 rules, Italian citizens are allowed to visit relatives and move more freely within each region. UN: Afghan forces caused 172 casualties in April

KABUL, 20 May 2020 [Fik/News Sources]: The UN blamed Afghan government forces Tuesday for more than 170 civilian casualties in April amid an escalating war on the heels of immovable peace talks. Preliminary figures by the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) indicated casualties attributed to government forces numbered 172 civilians, an increase of 38% compared to April 2019 and 37% higher than March 2020. “I call for a halt to the fighting and for parties to respect humanitarian law that is there to protect civilians,” said the Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Deborah Lyons. “Parties have committed to finding a peaceful solution and should protect the lives of all Afghans and not jeopardize people's hope for an end to the war,” said Lyons, who heads the UNAMA.
