UN chief welcomes US-Taliban peace deal

WASHINGTON, 01 March 2020 [Fik/News Sources]: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed a peace deal signed between the U.S. and Taliban on Saturday that seeks to achieve a lasting solution to the Afghan war.  Two landmark conferences in Qatari capital of Doha and Kabul of Afghanistan saw historic decisions made regarding the fate of war-ravaged Afghanistan. Coronavirus cases surpass 110,000 worldwide

ANKARA, 09 March 2020 [Fik/News Sources]: The novel coronavirus, officially known as COVID-19, infected more than 110,000 people across the world, according to a data-collecting website “Worldometer”. The death toll has risen to 3,831 across the world, including 3,120 in China, where the virus outbreak first emerged from the city of Wuhan in last December. Outside of China, the virus has killed many others, including 366 in Italy, 194 in Iran, 53 in South Korea and 22 in the U.S. Besides, more than 62,000 people have been discharged from hospitals after recovering from the virus. Taliban kill 14 Afghan forces days after Eid truce

KABUL, 30 May 2020 [Fik/News Sources]: Afghanistan's Defense Ministry said on Friday the Taliban violated cease-fire and stormed border police outposts in Paktia province killing 14 policemen and injuring three others. It said in a statement that the incident took place in the Dand-e-Pathan district, heartland of the Haqqani Network, an offshoot of the Taliban. The Defense Ministry said a number of insurgents were also killed without specifically mentioning the toll. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
