Transporters of pilgrims without permits face punishment

JEDDAH, 30 July 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: The General Directorate of Passports announced the formation of committees to implement punishments and issue administrative decisions against transporters of pilgrims who do not have a Hajj permit. The committees will work around the clock and issue instant sanctions, the directorate said. First-time violators will face 15 days in jail, a fine of SR10,000 ($2,665) for every passenger carried, possible confiscation of the vehicle, and if the offender is an expat, deportation from the Kingdom and denial of re-entry. Tunisia prolongs state of emergency for another month

TUNIS, 06 Oct 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: President Beji Caid Essebsi on Friday announced the extension of Tunisia’s countrywide state of emergency for another month.    According to a statement released by his office, Essebsi on Friday received Interior Minister Hisham al-Furati and Defense Minister Abdul Karim al-Zubaidi at the presidential palace in Carthage.  The three men reportedly discussed the country’s security situation -- and the ability of the national security apparatus to fight terrorism -- before deciding to extend the state of emergency.  The state of emergency was first imposed following Tunisia’s popular uprising in late 2010/early 2011, which ended the regime of autocratic President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali after almost 25 years in power.   A second state of emergency

Palestinians in East Jerusalem boycott Israeli polls

JERUSALEM, 31 oct 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: Palestinian residents of East Jerusalem generally boycotted Israel’s municipal elections Tuesday, with turnout only around 2-5 percent, local media reported.  Jerusalem had the lowest turnout of the elections overall, with only 32 percent of residents heading to the polls.  Meanwhile, Israeli police arrested four Palestinians who attempted to block the installation of polling boxes in East Jerusalem.  More than 6.6 million Israelis were eligible to vote in the elections.  According to the Israeli Interior Ministry, around 11,000 polling stations opened in 251 municipalities across the country for the vote.  A total of 863 candidates vied for some 251 city, town and regional councils nationwide.  Local elections are held every four years in
