New Delhi, 09 July 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has met Zakir Naik, wanted in India for alleged terror activities and money laundering, and a ruling party strategist has stoutly defended the government’s decision not to deport the controversial Muslim preacher, Malaysian media reported today. The meeting, which may not go down well in New Delhi, took place yesterday, a day after Prime Minister Mahathir ruled out deporting Zakir Naik, who has permanent residency status in Malaysia, unless he breaks Malaysian laws. “I can confirm that Naik went to see Tun (Mahathir) this morning (Saturday),” Free Malaysia Today reported quoting a source as saying. Read More...New Delhi, 19 July 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the provision of 70 lakh scholarships to students from the minority communities under its pre-matric, post-matric and merit-cum-means based schemes till the year 2020. Union Minister of Law and Justice Ravi Shankar Prasad told a media conference that under the three schemes, the government provided 60 lakh scholarships to students of this category during 2017-18. “To meet the next target of 70 lakh scholarships, the total expenditure is going to be Rs 5,338.32 crore,” he said. Former defence minister and senior Congress leader AK Antony said the government's claim that a secrecy clause in the pact was forcing it to not reveal price details of the deal was "totally wrong". They have to reveal price details of each aircraft, he said.
