Heavy rains predicted ; orange alert in coast

Mangaluru, 02 June 2020 [Fik/News Sources]: The depression in Arabian Sea is expected to  turn into a cyclone on   June 2 Tuesday  bringing heavy to very heavy rains in coastal districts.  An  orange alert has also been announced in the coastal districts. The Weather Department has predicted 115.6 mm to 204 mm of rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning. Fishing activities are also banned in the coast. Attack on Bajrang Dal activists attempting to prevent cattle smuggling

Belthangady, 20 July 2020 [Fik/News Sources]: Two Bajrangdal activists were allegedly attacked while trying to intercept a vehicle which  was transporting  cattle in a pick-up vehicle along with  an escort vehicle near Guruvayanakere on July 20, Monday morning. The accused had later fled the scene. Earlier in the day,  Bajrangdal activists had succeeded in intercepting another pick-up vehicle which was allegedly transporting three cows and two calves in a inhuman way. The animals which were rescued were handed over to the Belthangady police. The cattle were being  taken from a house at Suryapadpu. Private colleges fear more vacant engineering seats this year

Bengaluru, 19 August 2020 [Fik/News Sources]: The Covid-19 crisis has left private engineering college managements in the state in fear as many of them face the threat of more seats going vacant this year. The managements feel that students from other states may not prefer to join colleges in the state this year considering the Covid-19 scenario. Every year, the Consortium of Medical Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (Comed-K) takes around 18,000 candidates for seats available in over 190 private engineering colleges by conducting entrance test and counselling. As per the details available from Comed-K, around 9,000 seats were left unfilled during 2019. “The number of unfilled seats is likely to increase this year due to Covid,” said Dr S Kumar Executive Secretary of Comed-K.
