Bhatkal, 04 July 2022 [varthabharati]: The Karnataka State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) has recommended a departmental enquiry and fine of Rs. 50,000 against two police personnel including a Sub-Inspector for brutally beating a man during COVID lockdown who had stepped out of his house to fetch medicine for his mother. Hearing the complaint filed by victim Mohammed Hassan Irshad Guda, the NHRC recommended Departmental Enquiry against Bhatkal PSI Bharath Kumar and Police Constable Kuber for brutally beating Irshad during the second COVID lockdown on 8 July 2020. The Commission has also recommended “strict action” against Bhatkal Town Circle Inspector Divakar for dereliction of duty for allegedly not initiating action when the complainant had arrived at the police station after the incident. Read More...Udupi, 07 Jun 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: The indefinite strike by the rural postal employees under the banner of All India Gramin Dak Sevaks Union (AIGDSU) has disrupted rural postal services in the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi. Dakshina Kannada district has Mangaluru and Puttur postal divisions. There are 77 rural post offices in Mangaluru division with 225 employees while there are 370 post offices in Puttur division with a staff of 765. There are 225 rural post offices in Udupi district with 670 employees. The beneficiaries of several welfare schemes of the state and central government, particularly in rural areas, are dependent on postal services to avail of the benefits. On Saturday, June 9, the Pejawar pontiff told reporters at the Krishna Kalyana Mantapa in Tumakuru that as he is on a tour of the state this year, it will not be possible for him to organise the Iftar.
