Hijab row escalates: Insta post calls for beheading of Sri Ram Sena chief, BJP leader

Udupi, 08 June 2022 [Fik/News Sources]: The row over wearing hijab in classrooms witnessed a scary escalation in Karnataka as a post on social media called for the beheading of BJP leader Yashpal Suvarna and Sri Ram Sena chief Pramod Muthalik for money. A complaint has been filed in Udupi on the matter.

BJP leader Yashpal Suvarna, who is also a member of the college administration, said, "Getting such messages and calls through social media is very common in public life. When we work for the nation, anti-national organisations or traitors issue such threats from abroad. I will not take it seriously. It’s a part of life. We are doing our work within the limits of the Constitution. An Instagram post about me and Pramod Muthalik does not make any difference. We will not take back our steps."

"I am not bothered about the Instagram post, however, I want to know who are the local people behind the issue. We will find that," he added.

On Tuesday, 24 students were suspended in Uppinangady town for trying to wear hijab in the classroom even after several warnings from college authorities.

The students were issued notices after they tried to protest about not being allowed to wear the hijab. The notice said the students must reply to the notice within three days of receiving it. It also mentions that students colluded with external elements and opposed the order of the Karnataka High Court.
