Two from Mangaluru among 49 convicts in Ahmedabad blasts case

Mangaluru, 20 Feb 2022 [Fik/News Sources]: Two from Mangaluru among the 38 convicts who have been awarded the death sentence for their role in the 2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts case by a special court in Gujarat on Friday. The serial blasts in Ahmedabad killed 56 people and injured more than 200 people.

The convicts from Mangaluru have been identified as Syed Mohammed Naushad (30), resident of Subhashnagar near Pandeshwar, Ahmed Bawa Abubaker Barelvi (38), resident of Haleangadi.

Ahmed Bawa has been sentenced to death, while court has pronounced life sentence to Naushad. They are reportedly members of the banned Students’ Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). Within a few months of the blasts, police arrested 79 people, including Ahmed Bawa and Naushad.
