New Delhi, 09 Aug 2021 [Fik/News Sources]: Students of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) are up in arms against the varsity administration for giving more space to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and ignoring sacrifices of the architects of AMU including Sir Syed Ahmad Khan in the Centenary Issue of AMU Gazette.
Seven photos of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and only three photos of Sir Syed have been included in the gazette.
”It is shameful that the Gazette issued on the occasion of the university’s centenary celebration has been made a manifesto of BJP and not of AMU,” Huzaifa Aamir Rashadi, a student leader associated with the AMU students union said.
In a video released by him, he alleged that the special gazette was expected to be focused on the achievements of AMU and sacrifices of Sir Syed and his colleagues but in reality, it is more about the ruling BJP. ”If you look at this it will look like the BJP manifesto,” he added.
Hamza Sufiyan, former vice president of the AMU students union, said that the sacrifices of the architects of AMU have been ignored in the gazette.
AMU spokesperson Prof Shafey Kidwai has dismissed allegations labelled against the university administration. He said PM Modi’s photos have been published in the gazette as he had virtually participated in the AMU Centenary Celebration.
The print version of the gazette was recently published but its online copy is yet to be uploaded on the AMU website.
