Israel Embassy Blast: Delhi Court Grants Bail to Four Kargil Students Citing Clean Antecedents

New Delhi, 17 July 2021 [Fik/News Sources]: A Delhi Court on Thursday granted bail to four men from Kargil who were arrested on June 23 in connection with the low intensity explosion near the Israel embassy in New Delhi on January 29 citing that they were students with clean antecedents.

According to The Indian Express, Metropolitan Magistrate Dr Pankaj Sharma said that nothing incriminating has been presented by investigating officer to suggest four students— Nazir Hussain, 26, Zulfikar Ali Wazir, 25, Ajaz Hussain, 28, and Muzammil Hussain, 25 — had links to terror organisations or posed any threat to society.

“Considering the age, antecedents and the fact that all the accused persons are students having roots in the society and fixed place of abode, in the backdrop of the fact that IO has the custody of the relevant evidence, all the accused persons are ordered to be released on bail,” Sharma said.

The four were arrested by a special cell of Delhi police on the charges that they were part of a conspiracy to carry out attacks targeting western and Israeli establishments in India. Their counsel however refuted the allegations telling the court that three of them were in Delhi to prepare for exams while Nazir was at home in Kargil for one and half years. He also said that the social media posts of the four did not carry any incriminating content.

The investigation officer’s report had suggested that one of the students was posting content “highly objectionable” on his Twitter account against Israel which was followed by Wazir. However, the court said the report does not show that there was material objectionable against India. All the electronic gadgets from the accused have been recovered, the court said, adding the antecedents of the all accused are blemish-free and they are students. “As per report of the IO, Nazir is a supporter of IRGC (Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) but same is not a terrorist organisation,” the court stated in the order.

The case of explosion is being investigated by the National Investigation Agency, however, the Special Cell of Delhi Police registered the conspiracy case. The four students were picked up from Kargil by the special cell in joint efforts with a “Central agency” and local police.
