New Delhi, 03 July 2021 [Fik/News Sources]: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday directed police to ensure safety of a woman who have claimed she and her family are facing life-threats and being witch-hunted by the UP police, media and vigilante groups following her conversion to Islam.

Justice C. Hari Shankar asked Delhi Police to take appropriate steps to protect the woman till the matter is heard by the regular bench.

The woman, previously known as Renu Gangwar and currently as Ayesha Alvi, works in Delhi. She is from Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh and had approached the court saying that because of her conversion she and her family are being targeted and malicious content is being published in media which should be stopped immediately.

One of the media persons forcefully took Rs20,000 from her. Media has published absurd and imaginary details about her conversion, Ayesha says in the plea.

She further says that she had filed written requests to Delhi Police for protection but did not get it.
